Hope

Breath for our Mind and Soul

Your best friend.

Your worst enemy.

Your neighbor.

The guy you’ve never met in Africa.

Your pastor.

Your sister.

and YOU.

We are connected by something we ALL need.

Hope.

We all need hope. Everyone.

A friend of mine currently has a sibling going through an incredible tragedy with their body. Currently, so much about the future of his life is up in the air. More answers will come after a series of surgeries and physical therapy.

My heart goes out to this guy (even though I’ve never met him) but I have no clue what I can do to help him.

What does he need more than anything else right now –  in this moment?

Yes, he needs healing. Miraculous healing. But more than anything, he needs hope.

Whether we’re lying in the hospital bed or our pillow-top bed at home, we ALL need hope.

Sometimes I can feel estranged to so many other “types” of people. I can say in my head, “I’m nothing like that person.” But, in reality, we have something in common that’s so fundamental to our lives – the desperate need for hope.

Like our need for breath in our lungs, hope is the “breath” for our mind and soul.

Realizing everyone’s need for hope should break down the speculative walls we’ve built up between us and other people.

What can I do for my friend’s sibling? I can do my best to infuse hope into their life.

As believers, we must remember we worship the God of Hope.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15.13

“And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.” Psalm 39:7

Hope anchors the soul.” Hebrews 6:19

“God is the only one who can make the valley of trouble a door of hope.” Hosea 2:15
